The 5,000 years of Chinese civilization was so brilliant and magnanimous that it was worshiped, admired, and even copied by other countries throughout all of history. So what philosophical and cultural components contributed to the brilliance of ancient Chinese civilization throughout these thousands of years? My speech today will discuss this subject in depth. Take this painting as an example, a girl is entranced by the moonlight, and expresses her longing and hope. What is she looking forward to? In fact, this girl symbolizes the nature of mankind, who all have hopes and dreams that we look forward to and strive toward…is that right?

In this painting, a western girl is doing meditation. This is my neighbor, who I saw meditating one morning, and the beauty of the scene really caught my eye! I took a photo of her on the spot and later painted the scene. In ancient China, meditating was the norm. When they were about to work or read, they always meditated and controlled their breathing to calm down and increase focus. This paved the road for the cultivation practices that emerged in ancient China.

This girl is performing the fifth exercise of Falun Dafa, the sitting meditation. Falun Dafa is a spiritual cultivation way which originated in ancient china, and is spread today for the mental, physical, and spiritual benefit of it’s practitioners. It was brought to the public in 1992, and within seven years, gained a following of over 100 million people throughout China. Currently, the practice has spread to over 120 countries, and to both the east and the west. Falun Dafa has received over 3,000 awards from many different countries, including numerous proclamations and praises from many different levels of government in the United States.

My narration needs to start from the remote ancient Chinese civilization. More than 4,000 years ago, mankind was hit with the Great Flood and many civilizations were lost, including almost all of the western culture. Noah’s Ark retained some humans and animals, though most cultures and artifacts were wiped out. The records concerning the Great Flood can be found in many Western and Eastern books.

While world-wide civilization was almost completely exterminated at that time, the Chinese civilization was luckily revived after the flood. According to the historical records, the ruler Yaodi was instructed by Heaven to overcome the flood. Yaodi then assigned a man named Dayu to do the work, and it took him 13 years to finish the task. The heart of the Chinese civilization at the time was basically located in the area of the Kunlun Mountains. Therefore, a lot of culture in the Chinese civilization was inherited from the pre-historical period before the Great Flood. Hetu, Luoshu and Bagua are all cultural relics from this pre-historical period.

Falun Dafa was also inherited from the pre-historical period. During an earlier civilization, it had extensively saved sentient beings and in our current civilization, it was brought to the public in 1992. Before that, it was passed down to each generation through one-on-one discipleship making it a very precious cultivation way. In fact, the sages who taught Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism to people in history, did it all in order to pave the way for today’s spreading of Falun Dafa. The Chinese civilization is the stairway left by the creator to human beings to be able to ascend back to Heaven, and in the period of Law’s end, the supreme Creator is saving sentient beings based on Chinese traditional civilization.

Then what are the different characteristics of the Chinese traditional civilization compared with Western culture? The characteristics are profound because Chinese traditional culture developed by directly targeting advancements in the human body, life and the universe. Now, let’s look at some of the characteristics of Chinese traditional culture:

1. Chinese Traditional Culture Is Connected With the Heaven

In traditional Chinese culture, there is a core concept, “Harmony between Heaven and Earth”. If a man acknowledges Heaven, then he acknowledges the Divine, and when his mind is in line with the Heavenly rules, he can seek harmony between Heaven and himself. All aspects of traditional Chinese culture are connected with the Heaven, such as the human body, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, eight triagrams, Taji, Hetu, Luoshu, Chinese traditional medicine, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese music, and so on and so forth.

Traditional Chinese culture believes that the human body is a miniature of the universe. The ancient Chinese medicinal book, Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine, explains how health can be preserved by seeking harmony between the internal organs and the outside world. This also manifests itself in the culture of cultivation practice.

In historical books, there are many stories of cultivator’s success and consummation. In ancient China, Haungdi learned cultivation from Guangchengzi, attained the Tao at the age of 120, then flew to Heaven on a dragon in broad daylight. Zhenwu, also known as Xuanwu, was originally a prince of Jingle Kingdom, but he gave up his position and engaged in a solitary cultivation way in the Wudang Mountain, which was similar to the method of Sakyamuni Buddha; where after 42 years of cultivation he finally achieved consummation. There are numerous similar stories. To ancient Chinese people, cultivation is a part of their daily life.

Ancient Chinese people believed all aspects of their daily life was arranged by the gods, including birth-aging-sickness-death, marriage, career, fortune and prosperity, etc. This was referred to as “Gods are three feet above your head”. Among all the deities, the Tiandi (Heavenly Emperor) is the supreme God and the Creator. Not only did the common people believe that their deeds were being watched by the Heaven, but the emperors also worshiped Heaven and respected cultivators in Buddhist and Taoist schools. Tang Taizong (the second emperor in Tang Dynasty) went to greet, in person, the return of Xuanzang, who went to India for true scriptures on the Buddha law. Genghis Khan summoned Taoist Qiuchuji three times, and inquired for methods of ruling and health preservation. All these are good examples of the respect people of all classes payed to the Divine.

2. Chinese traditional culture employs tolerance.

Many battles in history were aroused by conflicts between religions. Nevertheless, Chinese traditional culture has high tolerance in this regard.

In ancient China, churches and temples of different religions were peaceful neighbors. There was no severe religious battles throughout Chinese history. On the other hand, some invaders such as Mongolians and the Manchus also contributed their own cultural factors into Chinese culture, which integrated their cultural essence. This demonstrates the value of integration and acceptance in Chinese culture.

There are a lot of gods in this universe, and they may belong to the Buddhist school, or the Taoist school. The concept of “Buddha, Tao, and God”, and the concept of cultivation practice, has been continuously reinforced throughout Chinese history. Also reinforced, were the orthodox values such as morality, wisdom and faith. Such a profound culture with great tolerance was systematically arranged by the Creator in remote ancient times, its purpose was for the salvation of sentient beings in the end of times. Many cultures predicted that the Creator was destined to descend into the human world to save people. If so, it is very understandable that the salvation is conducted on the stage of Chinese civilization.

3. Chinese traditional culture explained the concepts of “Zhong” and “Yi”, which means loyalty and faithfulness.

Many Chinese historical stories display the concepts of Zhong and Yi. For example, in time of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei became sworn brothers and kept faithful to each other throughout their lives. Zhuge Liang assisted Liu Bei in administrating the Shu Kingdom, and he devoted all of his energy and passion to the cause and later became an idol worshiped by later generations.

As for loyalty, throughout hundreds and thousands of years, even illiterate people knew the stories of Yang Liulang and Yue Fei, who were loyal to their countries and sacrificed themselves for the sake of their people.

4. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is an evil cult that tried to extinguish the Chinese culture.

The first sentence of The Communist Manifesto is “A specter is wandering across Europe, the specter of communism”. As a matter of fact, communism is truly a specter, and is believed to display itself as an evil red dragon in other dimensions. To China, it is a specter from abroad. During the 60 years of the Chinese Communist Party’s reign, it has been conducting a systematical extermination of traditional Chinese culture and thought, and has almost fully achieved its goal. Spiritual elites with independent thoughts have all been killed by the numerous political movements that were repeatedly launched on purpose. According to reliable statistics, more than 80 million Chinese people were slaughtered by the Chinese Communist Party. Especially after the Great Cultural Revolution, traditional Chinese culture became almost extinct. Despite the end of the revolution, the slaughtering is still going on: on June 4, 1989, numerous students were killed in Tiananmen Square; and since after July 20, 1999, countless Falun Gong practitioners were jailed, tortured, and killed in mainland China. Even more outrageous is the systematic live organ harvesting conducted on Falun Dafa practitioners for profit! This is the most bloody and cruel deed committed by any government throughout all of human history!

The Communist Party’s crackdown on Falun Dafa is completely based on slandering and lies, through which they attempt to instigate hatred against Falun Dafa. The most typical example is the phony “self-immolation in Tienanmen Square”. In January 2001, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security arranged three people to pretend to be Falun Dafa practitioners and set themselves on fire (while wearing a protective suit under their clothes) on Tienanmen Square, and based on this falsely accused Falun Dafa of being a “cult”. After it was exposed to be a hoax, the Communist regime’s slaughter of Falun Dafa went underground, but still continued their deception and hatred instigation to the public and continued persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. The crackdown against Falun Dafa deteriorated the Chinese people’s morality. Words of“Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” have become sensitive words and have been screened. People are losing their respect for morality and only fight for the sake of money. Now, poisonous milk, illegal cooking oil, corruption and pornography are everywhere. The persecution of Falun Dafa, along with its extermination of traditional Chinese culture, all point toward the eventual goal of the Communist Party: to finally and entirely destroy the human race.
